Jewelry stolen from Louvre Museum in Paris -- report
Jewelry was stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday morning, French daily Le Parisien reported.
According to the report, masked perpetrators allegedly entered the museum through an area under construction, reportedly used a freight elevator to reach the targeted room and broke windows to gain access. Then they took nine pieces of jewelry from the collection of Napoleon and the Empress and are currently on the run.
French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati said on social platform X that a "robbery" took place on Sunday morning as the museum opened, adding that "no injuries have been reported."
The museum also announced on X that it would be closed on Sunday "for exceptional reasons."
Pakistan, Afghanistan confirm ceasefire agreement
Pakistan and Afghanistan have reached a ceasefire agreement to immediately halt cross-border attacks and promote mutual respect for each other's territory, officials from both sides confirmed on Sunday.
According to the agreement, attacks from Afghanistan on Pakistani soil "will stop immediately," Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said Sunday on social media.
Delegations from both sides will meet again in Istanbul, Trkiye, on Oct. 25 to discuss detailed mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire and enhancing security cooperation, Asif added.
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement on Sunday that Afghanistan and Pakistan have signed a bilateral agreement, reaching a comprehensive and meaningful ceasefire, following negotiations in the Qatari capital of Doha.
Military escalation in Gaza causes at least 46 deaths despite ceasefire deal
Military escalation in Gaza between Israel and Hamas has resulted in at least 46 deaths on Sunday, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.
The Israeli army said in a statement that two of its soldiers were killed in a Hamas attack early in the day. During the incident, Hamas fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on Israeli troops dismantling infrastructure in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
In response to the reported attack, the IDF launched a series of airstrikes and artillery shelling across various areas of the Gaza Strip.
Gaza's health authorities said at least 44 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli attacks.
8 killed, 2 missing as tropical storm Fengshen slams Philippines
Eight people were killed and two remain missing as tropical storm Fengshen slammed the Philippines on Sunday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.
OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo said five people were pinned to death by a fallen tree in the municipality of Pitogo in Quezon province, southeast of Manila, and three others were killed in the central Philippines' Western Visayas region.
"We are currently verifying and validating the initial reported eight deaths to determine whether their deaths were storm-related," Castillo said.
Castillo said that search and rescue operations were ongoing for two people who were reported missing in a landslide that hit the municipality of Quezon in Bukidnon province in southern Philippines.
3 killed in Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia's Belgorod, Kherson
Three Russians were killed Saturday in separate Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia's Belgorod region and Kherson region, said local authorities.
Russia's Belgorod region was attacked by 149 Ukrainian drones, leaving one person dead and nine others injured over the past 24 hours, said Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
On the same day, in the Kherson region, a couple was killed in an overnight Ukrainian drone attack, according to local authorities.
