Jose Miranda delivered a go-ahead, two-run single in a five-run sixth inning and Ryan Jeffers and Ty France each had two hits and an RBI as the Minnesota Twins topped the host Chicago White Sox 8-3 on Tuesday.
Outscored 28-6 during an 0-4 start, the Twins regrouped to earn their first victory of the season.
After retiring the first two batters in the Minnesota sixth, Chicago rookie right-hander Shane Smith -- making his major league debut -- walked two straight Twins before being lifted for Penn Murfee.
Jeffers greeted him with an RBI single to bring Minnesota within 3-1 before France followed to decrease the deficit to a run. Edouard Julien added a run-scoring single after a hit-by-pitch to set the stage for Miranda, who punctuated the two-out rally with a two-run single.
Harrison Bader hit a three-run homer in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Smith took a no-decision, spacing two runs and two hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four. Murfee (0-1) was the loser, allowing three runs and four hits without retiring a batter.
Chicago built a 3-0 lead after five innings. Brooks Baldwin opened the scoring with an RBI single to center field with one out in the second and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
With reliever Louis Varland entering the game for starter Simeon Woods Richardson, Nick Maton smacked a solo homer in the fifth to push the White Sox advantage to 3-0.
Woods Richardson scattered two runs and five hits in four innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Varland (1-0) allowed a run and a hit with two strikeouts in his inning of work to get the win.
Minnesota pitchers retired eight of the next nine White Sox after the Maton home run. Jorge Alcala struck out the side in the seventh as the Twins struck out 13.
Lenyn Sosa and Andrew Benintendi each went 3-for-4 to pace Chicago's nine-hit attack.
The White Sox put two runners on with one out in the eighth but Griffin Jax escaped trouble by inducing Miguel Vargas on a lineout and striking out Sosa.
