BEIRUT, 24th April 2025 (WAM) -- Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of Lebanon, commended the UAE for its pivotal role in enhancing stability across the region and for its unwavering support for Lebanon's security and development.
In a press statement today, Salam emphasised the importance of a stable Syria for the well-being of the entire region. He highlighted the visit of President Ahmed Al-Sharaa of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UAE as a meaningful step toward regional stability, noting the UAE's central and constructive role in this context.
The Lebanese Prime Minister reiterated the Lebanese government's commitment to "bridging the trust gap" that has emerged in recent years between Lebanon and Arab states.
He praised Lebanon's historic relations with the UAE and expressed gratitude for the UAE's generous and ongoing support, including its hospitality to hundreds of thousands of Lebanese expatriates.
Salam also expressed hope for the return of Emirati tourists to Lebanon in the near future, noting the robust measures the Lebanese government, ministries, and relevant agencies are implementing to ensure aviation and visitor safety.
Discussing broader regional issues, the Prime Minister stressed Lebanon's eagerness to open a new chapter in relations with Syria. He called for lifting sanctions on Syria, citing the potential positive impact this would have on Lebanon, particularly in facilitating the return of Syrian refugees, boosting Lebanon's access to energy resources, and revitalising trade and transit routes.
Reaffirming Lebanon's sovereignty, Salam stated that the government remains committed to ensuring national security and asserting state authority across all Lebanese territories.
He underscored that such efforts are essential for safeguarding the nation and its people and for paving the way toward national recovery through various avenues.
The Lebanese Prime Minister concluded with optimism regarding Lebanon's ongoing reform agenda, expressing confidence that there is a genuine opportunity for meaningful progress.
