Islamabad [Pakistan], April 14 (ANI): National Party Senator Jan Mohammad Buledi has criticised the federal government's attitude towards Balochistan issues, describing it as 'negative and non-serious,' Dawn reported. He stated that the federal government has made no serious efforts to defuse the grave situation in the province.
In his remarks at a seminar on the Balochistan issue at the Lahore Press Club, Buledi said the province has been the recipient of apathy and an unjust attitude from the federal government since the very beginning, escalating the sense of deprivation among its people.
Jan Mohammad Buledi said the federal government has adopted a colonial approach to deal with Balochistan's people and their rights since the creation of Pakistan despite the political, national and economic rights of the people of Balochistan being guaranteed by the constitution.
He said, 'Over the past 77 years, instead of addressing these issues, the rights of the people of Balochistan have been consistently ignored, and the colonial mindset continues to this day.' Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Imtiaz Alam and others also expressed their views on the Balochistan issues, Dawn reported.
The NP leader noted that the issues of Balochistan had become complex over the years. However, the rulers were not willing to recognise the national and political rights of the people of Balochistan.
He said that Pakistan's rulers speak about Balochistan's resources during conferences held in Islamabad to sell the minerals of the province at throwaway prices in the global market without consulting Baloch people and their leadership and ignoring their economic interests, Dawn reported.
The NP leader said, 'Islamabad is interested only in Balochistan's resources, but it has no concern or interest for the impoverished people of the province.'
He further said that the results of the digital census in Balochistan were rejected as the population was falsely recorded as eight million. He said the government was not ready to accept the population of half of Pakistan, fearing it would raise Balochistan's representation and share in different institutions.
He said, 'Pakistan's major political parties and the powerful establishment have learned nothing from past mistakes. Major political parties of the country constantly make compromises on the rights of the people for the sake of getting power, sidelining national and public interests to accept temporary perks and privileges.'
