JERUSALEM, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv secured a 77-73 home win over Greek champions Panathinaikos Athens in the fifth round of basketball's EuroLeague on Thursday evening.
It was Maccabi's third win in the tournament, while Panathinaikos have one win in five games.
Maccabi led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to points and rebounds by James Nunnally.
The unstoppable Nunnally helped Maccabi increase the gap to 33-21 just before half-time.
Maccabi's Jalen Reynolds started the third quarter strongly, allowing the home team to extend the lead to 43-25 in the 25th minute.
Ante Zizic made it 53-34 in the 29th minute, and the third quarter ended 55-40.
Roman Sorkin made it 64-44 in the 33rd minute, but Daryl Macon and Nemanja Nedovic cut the gap to 66-59 with 3:37 minutes to go.
Ioannis Papapetrou scored a three-pointer with 29 seconds to go, making it 74-71. Wilbekin scored just one from the line, and Macon made it 75-73.
With seven seconds to the final buzzer, Wilbekin scored twice from the line and secured the win.
Nunnally scored a game-high 18 points, while Wilbekin finished with 16 points.
Macon led Panathinaikos scorers with 17 points, with Papapetrou adding 15 more.
Maccabi will play their next game at home against Lithuania's Zalgiris Kaunas on Tuesday, while Panathinaikos host Turkey's Anadolu Efes the following evening.
