TUNIS -- During the past 24 hours, Tunisian security units arrested 1,200 of different nationalities who planned to cross illegally the Mediterranean to Europe, private radio station Mosaique FM reported on Monday.
"The arrest operations were carried out by National Guard units during a security campaign in the southeastern province of Sfax to stop the illegal immigration waves," Mosaique FM quoted Houcemeddine Jbabli, spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard, as saying. (Tunisia-Illegal Immigrants-Arrest)

MOSCOW -- Russia's Pacific Fleet is holding tactical military exercises aimed at protecting the Northern Sea Route, the country's defense ministry said on Monday.
The "Finval-2023" exercises are taking place in the waters of the Chukchi and Bering Seas as well as on the Chukotka Peninsula, according to the defense ministry. (Russia-Drills)

BAGHDAD -- A bombardment targeted an airport in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region on Monday, killing six people and wounding one, local officials and medical sources told Xinhua.
The attack took place in the afternoon at the Arbat Agricultural Airport on the southeastern outskirts of Sulaymaniyah city, some 325 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, a Kurdish security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-Attack-Airport)

ATHENS -- Five members of a Greek humanitarian mission to Libya were killed and 10 others injured in a car accident, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said here on Monday, expressing condolences and declaring a three-day period of mourning in the Armed Forces.
The incident occurred on Sunday shortly after the 19-member team arrived in Benghazi. A bus transporting them from Benghazi to the city of Derna to assist in the wake of devastating floods collided with another vehicle, defense ministry officials said. (Greece-Libya-Accident)
