JERUSALEM, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv achieved a 2-0 home win over Greek side Aris Thessaloniki in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday evening.
Maccabi scored the first goal in the 29th minute, with a shot by Serbian striker Djordje Jovanovic, after a pass by Gabi Kanichowsky.
In the 84th minute, Eran Zahavi found the net with a low accurate shot on a pass by Stipe Perica.
Aris failed to score due to impressive saves by goalkeeper Daniel Peretz and a rare miss by Portuguese substitute Rafael Camacho from four meters in front of an empty net in the final seconds.
The team who advances to the playoff stage of the qualifiers will be determined after the second leg match in Thessaloniki on August 11, with the winner on aggregate facing French side Nice.
