MOGADISHU -- Somali National Army (SNA) and Galmudug regional forces retook Guriel town in central Somalia from a paramilitary group Saturday following a fierce gunfight, army officials said.
SNA officers told Radio Mogadishu that the allied forces have concluded the security operations in the town after flushing out Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ), a moderate Islamic group based in the central region, which had occupied the town for barely a month. (Somalia-Security)

KAMPALA -- Ugandan police have urged the public to remain calm after an explosion in the capital Kampala on Saturday.

TRIPOLI -- The Libyan authorities on Saturday announced capturing members of Islamic State (IS) extremist group in northwestern Libya.
"A number of IS members have been captured in Msallata town, 114 km east of the capital Tripoli, including a senior Libyan member who fought in Syria," the country's Counter-Terrorism Force said in a statement. (Libya-IS)

MOGADISHU -- At least 20 people were killed and more than 40 others injured in clashes between regional Galmudug forces backed by the Somali National Army (SNA) and a paramilitary group in central Somalia on Saturday, officials confirmed late Saturday.
Ahmed Shire Falagle, information minister for Galmudug State, told Xinhua that the heavy fighting erupted on Saturday morning after Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ), a moderate Islamic group attacked positions of the joint forces on the outskirts of Guriel town. (Somalia-Army clashes-Galmudug)

JERUSALEM -- Israeli and U.S. archaeologists have discovered two 1,300-year-old Greek inscriptions among the remains of an ancient church in northeastern Israel, Kinneret Academic College (KAC) said on Saturday.
The inscriptions were found by archaeologists from KAC in northeastern Israel and Nyack College in New York City. (Israel-Discovery)
