CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, September 11 - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 10 conducted a 2-Day Trainer's Training on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Implementation, Documentation and Auditingunder the DOST Food Safety Human Resource Development Project at SEARSOLIN, Masterson Avenue on August 29-30, 2019.
HACCP tackles on enabling Food Business Operators (FBOs) to conduct preventive actions for every source of food hazard. It covers specifics on food hazard prevention such as preventing the hazard itself, its cause and effect factors and maintaining a list of quality control measures.
The agency pushes for the importance of HACCP so everyone can accept these standards and help those who are part of the food chain to meet consumer demands for safe food while at the same time gain access to the global market.
Having HACCP accreditation also gives FBOs additional points in its enterprise's standing for market competition.
The training was attended by the DOST-X Food Safety Team (FST), Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) staff, and representatives from the Food Safety Regulation Coordinating Board-X (FSRCB-X).
It was graced by three (3) DOST-X FST members who attended the HACCP Training Course by the Standard Global Services (SGS) in Cebu City.
One of training's goal is to form a pool of trainers who can be tapped by the industries in their need to be trained with GMP and HACCP principles.
With the training concluded, it is now assured that the industries and MSMEs in the food sector will gain access to a wide array of food safety trainers in the region. (Stephanie Y. Ibarra, DOST-X)
